On Monday, 10 March, the Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria Hotel in Sheffield played host to a remarkable celebration for International Women’s Day, held in partnership with NHS South Yorkshire and the South Yorkshire Women’s Network. This event brought together an array of inspirational women speakers, each dedicated to championing change, fostering inclusivity, and empowering women in their communities.
A Lineup of Inspiring Women
The event was expertly opened and led by Hannah Din, Chair of the Women Inspired Network. As the Director of Operations and Fundraising at Reach Up Youth, Hannah is committed to creating platforms where women can support one another and thrive. Her leadership set the tone for a day filled with motivation and meaningful conversations.
Diane Offers, representing YWCA, spoke about the impactful Your Story Matters Listening Project. As CEO Designate for YWCA Yorkshire, Diane is a strong advocate for trauma-informed, person-centred support for women across South Yorkshire, reinforcing the importance of amplifying women's voices.
Dr. Lou Mycroft, a social entrepreneur and TEDxDoncaster speaker, shared her insights on joyful changemaking. Her nomadic journey toward social change highlighted the power of positivity and persistence in overcoming challenges.
Breaking barriers in the healthcare sector, Maysoon Shafiq—the first female Muslim Lead Chaplain at Rotherham Hospital NHS Foundation Trust—spoke about the power of tolerance and inclusiveness. Maysoon’s pioneering role has gained national and international recognition, serving as an inspiration for women pursuing leadership in diverse fields.
Safiya Saeed, the Deputy Lord Mayor of Sheffield, captivated attendees with her talk on building communities through sport and the power of vulnerability. A multi-award-winning activist and dedicated community leader, Safiya’s work in Sheffield’s Burngreave community continues to drive inclusivity and unity.

Strengthening Networks and Celebrating Diversity
The event also provided attendees with an opportunity to hear from members of the South Yorkshire Women’s Network, who shared insights into their work and encouraged attendees to get involved. More information about the network and its events can be found here.
Adding a creative touch to the event, Chris Redford from Nifty Fox illustrated the key moments, capturing the energy and spirit of the discussions in a unique and artistic way.
Recognising that the event took place during Ramadan, we ensured that Muslim attendees who were fasting had access to a dedicated prayer space with prayer mats available. Those observing the fast received a small sweet treat box at the end of the event to enjoy after breaking their fast.
