The new Waverley Medical Centre, a purpose-built £3 million NHS facility forming part of the Olive Lane development in Rotherham has officially opened.
The state-of-the-art, purpose-built medical centre, run by Gateway Primary Care, provides a modern and welcoming environment for patients, with high-quality clinical facilities designed to support the needs of Waverley’s growing community.
Jean McVann from Gateway Primary Care said: "With the commencement of this medical centre, Gateway will bring to the community the same values that I placed at the heart of the gate when I established it 25 years ago.
"That was, equality, inclusion, compassion, dignity and respect.
"On opening this new surgery, we are committed to becoming a valued part of this community, providing the residents of Waverley with healthcare and ensuring that every patient feels welcomed, respected and well cared for."
Chris Edwards, Chief Executive of NHS South Yorkshire said: “We’re delighted to see Waverley Medical Centre officially open its doors and to be able to provide this fantastic new facility for the local community. This purpose-built, modern centre represents a significant investment in primary care at Waverley and provides a high-quality environment for both patients and staff.
“As the Waverley community continues to grow, it’s vital that local people have access to excellent healthcare close to home. This new centre gives us a modern facility designed to support the delivery of high-quality services today, while also providing a strong foundation for the future. We’re incredibly proud to see it become a reality and look forward to the positive difference it will make for local residents.”
Cllr Chris Read, Chair of the Rotherham Together Partnership, said: “We know this is a long-awaited addition to the facilities at Waverley, and the Rotherham Together Partnership has always committed to ensuring that it’s delivered, so it’s great that the day has finally arrived.
“Only by working across agencies can we deliver this kind of community infrastructure, it’s a real team effort. My thanks go to the Council, health service and Harworth’s staff who’ve worked so hard to bring this to fruition. And of course, we’ve already committed hundreds of thousands of pounds to upgrade other GP practices across the borough to both improve access to local doctors and to bolster our local high streets at the same time.
“Doubtless this will be a much-valued facility that will serve the local community for generations to come.”
A spokesperson for Harworth Group said: "Harworth is delighted to see the opening of this new modern and high-quality facility.
"We are hugely proud of the community we have created at Waverley and in particular, the Olive Lane development that includes this new medical centre and wider retail and social hub that now forms the heart of this vibrant new community."
