NHS South Yorkshire is reminding all those eligible that it’s not too late to book their Winter vaccinations such COVID-19, Flu & RSV.
Cases are expected to continue to rise over the next month following increased travel and socialising that occurs over the festive period. Those at greater risk of serious illness from COVID-19 & Flu are being encouraged to get vaccinated now to reduce their chances of needing medical care or hospitalisation.
COVID-19 vaccinations are available to adults aged 75 and over, older adult care home residents and anyone between 6 months and 74 years who is immunosuppressed. As it can take several days to boost your immunity after COVID-19 vaccinations, now is the time to book your jab.
Flu vaccinations are available to those 65 or over, those who have a long-term health condition including children from the age of 6 months) or are immunosuppressed, those living in a care home and all pregnant women.
Eligible adults can book an appointment to get their flu vaccine now via at their local pharmacy via the NHS App, GP practice or online at www.nhs.uk/bookflu.
Parents are being reminded to complete their child’s vaccination consent forms for school vaccination services, or to book an appointment or speak to their GP or community pharmacist for 2 to 3-year-olds, to ensure their child gets protected against flu ahead of the Christmas holidays.
Dr David Crichton, Medical Director at NHS South Yorkshire said:
“COVID-19 & Flu infections are still being seen in healthcare settings, so I would encourage anyone eligible who has not yet had their vaccine to get it as soon as possible.
“Vaccination is the best way for people to ensure they and their families are protected this winter, when we spend more time inside and the virus can spread more easily.
“Adults aged 75 and over and those that are immunosuppressed can book their COVID-19 vaccine via the NHS app, online or via 119.”
Vaccinations against COVID-19 are being offered until 31 January 2026. The last date you will be able to get your flu vaccine is 31 March 2026, but it's best to get vaccinated sooner to be protected during winter. Online booking will close on 30 March 2026.
