Holly Speight, 32, was one of 11 students and businesses to be awarded an accolade at Eastern Education Group’s annual apprenticeship awards ceremony during National Apprenticeship Week.
Holly is currently a level 3 science manufacturing technical apprenticeship at the pharmacy aseptic services unit at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The apprenticeship has enabled her to access on-the-job training whilst undertaking her studies and working towards a formal qualification as a route into a pharmacy technician career. Support offered includes an at-work educational supervisor, regular meetings with the training provider and provision of work-based examples of competency through apprenticeship-witness statements.
Holly said:
“This apprenticeship has really helped me to reshape my future and has provided me with the opportunity to progress my career within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. Getting a job as a pharmacy technician can be really difficult, however this apprenticeship has given me a recognised qualification and a clear and supported route into the profession. I've been incredibly fortunate to have such strong support throughout from my employers, the aseptic pharmacy unit, my training provider and my tutors – I'm so grateful.”
