‘999’ normally means an emergency for the health and care system – but in the case of the Yorkshire and Humber Care Record (YHCR) in South Yorkshire those numbers are very welcome.
On 18 June 2026, the South Yorkshire Shared Care Record (SYSCR) programme recorded 999 unique patient records being accessed – a daily record for the region.
Of those 999 unique patient records, the highest Trusts using the shared care record platform were Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
On the same day, there were 1,303 total patient records accessed and 1,324 total logins. The numbers show a fairly steady month-on-month growth in the number of people using the YHCR.
Katie Dowson, South Yorkshire Shared Care Record (SYSCR) Programme Director, said: “We are very pleased to see the growth in people using the shared care record platform. More and more colleagues are seeing the benefits in being able to view more information than ever before about the person they caring for. We would encourage everyone to login and see the amount of information the YHCR now contains.”
The YHCR gives health and care professionals directly involved in an individual’s care a more complete view of the care and treatment that an individual has received across all services. The shared care record platform securely connects information from hospitals, GPs, mental health services and social care providers, ensuring professionals have the most up-to-date information when they need it.
The YHCR is being rolled out via the South Yorkshire Shared Care Record (SYSCR) Programme, part of the national Connecting Care Records initiative. The programme is linking up GP practices and NHS organisations, local authorities, and voluntary and community sector organisations including service providers and hospices in South Yorkshire, across the Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield areas.
