Sheffield City Centre.jpgNHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is responsible for making sure we have the right GP services for people across South Yorkshire.

Background

After Dr Patrick sadly retired from Harold Street Medical Centre due to ill health in June 2023 the ICB gave a contract to Primary Care Sheffield to provide GP services from the practice for 18 months. This was to ensure that patients registered with the practice continued to receive care while we considered long term plans for primary care services for patients registered at the practice and the local population. Primary Care Sheffield will continue to provide services under the current contract until a decision has been made and alternative provision put in place.

Developing proposals for the future

We now need to complete our assessment of the needs of the local population and develop proposals for the future.

There are a number of issues we need to consider. Harold Street Medical Centre is a small general practice with fewer than 3,000 registered patients which is a much less than the national average of over 9,000 patients per practice. There are also several other practices nearby. This may make it difficult to find a provider willing to take over the contract.

But we know that planned housing development nearby and in the city centre will lead to a significant increase in population in the area over the next 10 years and local GP practice premises will not have enough space to accommodate this increase in patients.

We need to ensure that our general practices have sufficient capacity and are located in the right places to meet the needs of the current and future population in the area.

Have your say

To help us make the best decisions for local people we would like to hear from patients registered at the practice.

You can have your say by completing the patient survey online at www.bit.ly/haroldstreet or by completing a paper copy available from the practice. Paper copies are also downloadable below:

The survey will run from 2 December 2024 to 13 January 2025.

If you need help to complete the survey please speak to staff at the practice.
