Information for Patients:

The NHS offers treatment to people with COVID-19 who are at the highest risk of becoming seriously ill.

You're eligible for a COVID-19 treatment assessment, without being admitted to hospital, if all the following apply:

  • you're at highest risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19
  • you're aged 12 or over
  • you have symptoms of COVID-19
  • you have tested positive for COVID-19

NHS South Yorkshire has enlisted the services of Wicker Pharmacy to provide a local clinical pathway for COVID triage, assessment and treatment from 1st June 2026.

 

Who is this service for? 

You may be eligible if you: 

  • Are aged 18 or over 
  • Have tested positive for COVID-19 
  • Have symptoms that started within the last 5 days 
  • Are in a higher-risk group due to certain medical conditions or treatments high-risk patients 

 

What does the service include? 

  • A clinical assessment via video or telephone consultation
  • Advice on treatment options 
  • Prescription of antiviral medication where suitable 
  • Onward referral to hospital for IV treatments if oral treatment is not an option

Staff at the Wicker Pharmacy Clinic will contact you to arrange a video or telephone consultation with one of their prescribing pharmacists to assess your situation and, if appropriate, provide a prescription for treatment which can be collected at a pharmacy of your choice. Alternatively, you may be assessed as not requiring treatment or be referred for outpatient treatment at a local hospital.

How to access the service: 

You can access this service in two ways: 

  • Ask your GP practice to refer you 
  • Refer yourself online via **link will go live 1st June**
  • Note – this service is delivered remotely. Please do not attempt to access the service in person. 
     

Important 

This service replaces previous COVID medicine referral arrangements. Please seek help as soon as possible after a positive test. 

Treatment must usually start within 5 days of symptoms starting. Contact your GP or refer yourself as soon as possible. 

If you're eligible for COVID treatment, you should keep rapid lateral flow tests at home.

You may be able to pick up free rapid lateral flow test kits from a community pharmacy if you're eligible for COVID-19 treatment.

Information for General Practice Teams:

From the 1st June 2026 patients contacting their GP requiring assessment for Covid treatment should be referred to the Wicker Pharmacy Clinic by completing a referral form and emailing it to: pharmacy.fet87@nhs.net 

Operating Hours:

9am-5pm Monday to Friday

9am-1pm on Saturday.

Information for Community Pharmacy Teams:

The Wicker Pharmacy will begin offering a triage, assessment and prescribing service for high-risk patients living in South Yorkshire who have tested positive for COVID-19, to support timely access to antiviral treatments from 1st June 2026.

Prescriptions will be sent via EPS to the patient’s choice of Community Pharmacy.

When a prescription is issued for an antiviral a member of staff from the Wicker team will make a courtesy call to the pharmacy the patient wishes the prescription to be sent to so that the pharmacy can arrange prompt ordering of stock for dispensing.  

Any prescribing queries can be raised with the prescriber by telephoning: 0114 2727676  between 8.30am and 6pm Monday to Saturday. 

High-risk patients who have tested Positive for COVID-19 will be able to self-refer to the triage service using this link on the South Yorkshire ICB website. (Pharmacies may wish to book mark the link to help sign-post patients for triage). For patients who are digitally excluded they should be sign-posted to their general practice who can complete a referral form to refer them via email.

If someone is living in/registered with a GP practice in SY ICB but is being treated at a hospital in another ICB, or vice versa, which ICB’s instructions should be followed?
