Health leaders across South Yorkshire are encouraging people to consider an NHS apprenticeship as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) is the biggest week in the apprenticeships and skills calendar. It takes place from 10 to 16 February 2025 and celebrates the benefits and impact apprenticeships can have on communities, local businesses and regional economies.

Apprenticeships offer routes into more than 350 NHS careers. This includes a range of higher or degree apprenticeships (equivalent to foundation, full Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees), including nursing and Allied Health Professions.

Christine Joy, Chief People Officer at NHS South Yorkshire said: “NHS apprenticeships offer a wide range of opportunities at different levels, meaning no matter your current situation, there’s a place for you. You could kickstart your career as a healthcare support worker, or explore one of our fantastic administration, estates or digital apprenticeships”.

“Apprenticeships are a fantastic way of attracting new talent to the NHS and for developing the skills of the existing workforce. With hundreds of different NHS careers to choose from, there are a variety of jobs which can be done through an apprenticeship, meaning people can earn money while they learn the necessary skills while working for their local NHS, but without having to go to university first.”.

“We have some great examples of staff who are benefiting from NHS apprenticeships in our organisation. Whatever apprenticeship you choose, you can make a big difference to patient care from day one and be sure of a rewarding career”.

National apprenticeship week brings together everyone passionate about apprenticeships and skills to celebrate the value, benefit, and opportunity that they bring. Some of our own apprenticeships from NHS South Yorkshire are benefitting from  NHS apprenticeships.
