All eligible residents are being urged to come forward to get their spring booster with just two weeks to go until online bookings close.

The NHS online booking system, NHS App and 119 phone service will be closed for COVID vaccine bookings on the 30 June 2024, making the last date people will be able to book a spring booster will be 29 June.

Those who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine include adults aged 75 years and over, residents in care homes for older adults, and individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed.

This includes those who turn 75 years old by 30 June 2024. People who are admitted to an older adult care home or become immunosuppressed by 30 June are also eligible.

Nearly 100,000 people across South Yorkshire have already received their life saving Covid vaccination since the beginning of the spring booster campaign, including those over 75 and care home residents.

Dr David Crichton, Medical Officer at NHS South Yorkshire said “Vaccination is the best way for people to ensure they and their families are protected against the virus. Protection against Covid-19 reduces over time which is why it is so important to get this top-up if you are in one of the most at-risk groups.  Figures show that those who received the spring jab were up to 50% less likely to be admitted to hospital for three to four months afterwards. The vaccine offers the best protection against the virus.”

“Covid-19 can still be life-threatening, particularly for older people and those with a weakened immune system. The vaccine gives good protection and helps reduce the risk of serious illness or death, needing to go to hospital, catching and spreading the virus. I strongly urge all those who are eligible who have not yet come forward for their spring booster, to do so before the 30 June. Booking is easier than ever, so please come forward now to give yourself that all-important protection over the summer months and ensure you don't miss out before the offer ends."

Residents can check the summary of health conditions, treatments and medications that can cause a weakened immune system here. This list is a summary and does not cover everything. For a full definition of immunosuppression, please see Chapter 14a (table 3) of the Green Book.
