Speakup Self Advocacy 

A self-advocacy group run by and for people with learning disabilities and autistic people.  

Started back in 1988 when a group of people with learning disabilities came together because they were unhappy that people were not listening to them. 

We have been supporting, employing and training people with learning disabilities and autistic people to use their skills and abilities to help others and make a difference for over 30 years. 

Based in Rotherham, working across South Yorkshire and nationally.

The Carers Centre offers support and information services to all unpaid adult carers in the Sheffield looking after a family member or friend who is frail, or has a disability, illness, or mental health issue.

Sheffield Voices 

Sheffield Voices is a self-advocacy group with dedicated members and staff who ensure that everyone feels welcome, and that they take part during activities. 

They work with adults in Sheffield and the surrounding areas whose voices are seldom heard. They are made up primarily of adults with a learning disability and autistic adults but are also a welcoming and inclusive group.

ACCT (Autistic Children and Carers Together) 

A friendly charity led by parent-carers of autistic children and young people. 

We run several fun, accessible activities each week, providing a supportive environment where autistic children and young people can relax, be themselves, develop confidence and make friends.  

We also run a social group for young autistic adults, offer support for parent-carers, and provide regular inclusive activities for the whole family to enjoy together.

Makaton Charity

Today over 100,000 children and adults use Makaton symbols and signs, either as their main method of communication or as a way to support speech. 

Makaton has been shown to be useful for all sorts of people including those who struggle with understanding concepts, those who have poor literacy skills, including grammatical knowledge, and those with English as an Additional Language.
