NHS South Yorkshire’s Chief Executive, Gavin Boyle, has taken the decision to retire and will step down from his role at the ICB in mid-October.

Gavin has led the organisation since its inception in 2022. He was instrumental in achieving the transition from the former CCGs to the new organisation and established the governance arrangements for the South Yorkshire Integrated Care System. During his tenure Gavin has led the development of a long-term strategy for South Yorkshire, and we have seen real progress in delivering our ambitious aims to improve the health of local people and the delivery of NHS services.

Gavin has given over 36 years’ NHS service, including 18 years at Chief Executive level.

Pearse Butler, Chair of NHS South Yorkshire, said: “I've enjoyed working with Gavin and believe he has made a substantial contribution to the NHS in South Yorkshire and particularly our partnership working. We are working through plans for the longer-term leadership of the ICB and will confirm interim arrangements over the next few weeks.

“On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Gavin for his contribution and wish him the very best for the future.”

Throughout his career and particularly in South Yorkshire, Gavin has been passionate about working with local leaders to create an integrated approach to addressing health inequalities, improving clinical outcomes, and contributing to the wider social and economic development of our communities.
