NHS South Yorkshire launched a public consultation in July 2023 for plans to relocate two Sheffield city centre GP practices into a new GP health centre.

The practices are proposing to move to a new site in the former Royal Bank of Scotland building on Church Street.

Patients from the two practices, PCS City and PCS Mulberry, are now invited to attend a public meeting to find out more and share their views.

The meetings will take place at Sheffield Cathedral on:

  • Tuesday 17 October 2-4pm

  • Thursday 19 October 12-2pm

  • Wednesday 25 October 4-6pm

The new proposed GP health centre location is within 300 metres of the current practice sites and benefits from bus and tram stops directly outside the building offering good access by public transport. The building would be renovated and remodelled to provide accommodation that will better meet the needs of the practices than their existing premises.

Dr Zak McMurray, Medical Director for Sheffield, NHS South Yorkshire said:

“We have a once in a generation opportunity to improve healthcare for people in Sheffield. £37m in government funding is available to transform general practice across the city. Most of this money is being used to build new health centres in some of the areas that need them most, bringing together GP and other services all under one roof.

“Before we make any decisions, we want to know what our patients think so I would encourage you to come along to one of the meetings to find out more and feedback your views. We would also be grateful if you could complete the consultation survey if you haven’t already done so.”

NHS South Yorkshire believe that new health centres would allow them to do more for patients on one site as well as helping protect the future of general practice.

Some of Sheffield’s GP practices are based in old buildings which are not ideal for patients or staff. Many are too small to deliver healthcare in the 21st century and to benefit from the latest advancements in health care and technology. Waiting rooms are cramped, there are not enough consultation rooms and space for other services which could help improve people’s health.

If the proposals were to go ahead, all patients would continue to be registered with their current GP practice.

The survey can be completed online at www.bit.ly/sheffieldcityhealthcentre, or picked up from one of the GP practice receptions. The consultation runs till 29 October 2023.
