NHS South Yorkshire Chief Nursing Officer Cathy Winfield has congratulated the team at Sheffield Health and Social Care FT who scooped a major national award for their work in supporting people with mental health illness in the community.
SHSC beat eight other finalists to win Community Care Initiative of the Year at this week’s HSJ Patient Safety Awards.
Cathy said: “This award was given in recognition of the team’s holistic care in the community which empowers staff to provide better physical health care for those with mental ill health. It’s a great achievement, proving how committed staff are to quality and safety, and it’s very well deserved.”
In their award citation the judges praised the team's "vital work on focusing on patients' needs and safety during medical intervention”.
Cathy also praised the Trust for being shortlisted for four other awards – two in the Mental Health Safety Improvement category, one for Patient Safety Team of the Year and one in the Developing a Positive Safety Culture category.
The Trust was also highly commended for its work in the Developing a Positive Safety Culture category, Patient Safety Team of the Year category and the Mental Health Safety Improvement category.
Cathy added: “The number of initiatives and categories that SHSC was shortlisted for and highly commended for is very impressive and puts Sheffield on the map as an exemplar of healthcare innovation and excellence.”
