The South Yorkshire Children and Young People’s Alliance held a collaborative networking event with partner organisations to look at services across South Yorkshire to manage obesity for children and young people.
The South Yorkshire Children and Young People’s Alliance programme of work aims to reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes for children and young people in South Yorkshire with a strong focus on ensuring early intervention and prevention.
One of the programme’s priorities is to work in partnership to reduce childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles which will be maintained into adulthood. We know children and young people who experience inequalities and live in poverty are more likely to be obese. It is vital they have access to services and social prescribing offers that best support their needs locally.
There are many organisations across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw, from statutory and voluntary sectors contributing to this ambition and have been coming together as part of the South Yorkshire Children and Young People’s Obesity Transformation Group forum sharing work and possible solutions to positively impact this agenda.
The South Yorkshire Children and Young People’s Alliance Tackling Obesity Transformation Group wanted to invite a wider audience to have the opportunity to hear first-hand the impact of these initiatives. They also wanted to share the work taking place across South Yorkshire and to think about a wider approach to supporting children and young people to keep healthy as well as creating a directory of services.
At the event, which was held at Rotherham United Football Club, the Children and Young People's Alliance presented feedback on some of the excepted outcomes from the healthy lifestyles programme that has been running in South Yorkshire schools in collaboration with SHINE Health Academy.
Contributors were also invited to share their services information in market place style to showcase what works well in supporting children, young people and their families.
