Three healthcare teams from across South Yorkshire have been announced as representing the region at the prestigious NHS Parliamentary Awards next month.

This year, ten award categories cover exceptional care and health innovation across healthcare services. The shortlisted teams will now advance to the final stage of the awards:

South Yorkshire Integrated Care System – ICB & QUIT Teams

The Health Equalities Award

The QUIT programme is tackling health inequalities across hospitals in South Yorkshire. We are re-framing tobacco addiction into a treatable condition. This involves embedding screening at the point of admission and ward initiation of Nicotine Replacement Therapy, followed by behavioural support from QUIT teams and further support in the community.

The Proud to Care Hub Barnsley

The Excellence in Education and Training Award

Barnsley Proud to Care hub is a collaboration that helps people access jobs in health and care. We deliver targeted recruitment, volunteer and work experience, employability, training, and pastoral mentoring and have been nominated because we have had success supporting people who are often overlooked by current recruitment processes.

Stroke Trial Tracker Team – Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The Future NHS Award

Sheffield Teaching Hospital's innovative Stroke Trial Tracker uses custom algorithms to automatically match patient information with eligible trial criteria. This has accelerated the patient recruitment process and provided stroke patients with many more opportunities to participate in research. It has also freed up researchers' time to spend with patients.

Cathy Winfield, Chief Nursing Officer at NHS South Yorkshire said ”I am delighted that teams from across our system have been named as a finalists in this year’s NHS Parliamentary Awards. It reflects our colleagues' hard work and dedication to making South Yorkshire a better place for our patients, reducing health inequalities and providing excellent patient care. All of our South Yorkshire representatives should be very proud of their achievements.”

The NHS Parliamentary Awards were created in 2018 for health and care organisations and local MPs to celebrate and recognise the outstanding contribution of staff, volunteers and others working in the health and care sector.

During the first stage of the awards, MPs nominated healthcare teams and individuals serving their local area.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Westminster on Monday, 14 October 2024, where healthcare leaders, finalists, and new and returning MPs will come together to celebrate the immense contribution healthcare staff make to the NHS.
